We've created a real-life bicyle-driven cycle path explorer for Canalside Quarter, a development from The Hill Group. Our explorer lets you cycle in real life while virtually visiting the beautiful surrounding of Oxford
The Hill Group approached us with a unique challenge — to find an engaging, memorable way to highlight Canalside Quarter’s exceptional cycling connections into Oxford. We wanted potential buyers to not only see the development’s location advantage but feel it. So, we set out to create an experience that turns exploration into an interactive, immersive journey.
Working closely with The Hill Group, we envisioned a dynamic installation that combined real-life cycling footage, digital interactivity, and a touch of storytelling magic. The result was a custom-built system where users could physically pedal through Oxford’s beautiful bike routes, discovering the development and its surroundings — all while accompanied by the beloved mascot, Billy the Bear.
The challenges
The Hill Group sought a way to move beyond static maps and visuals. They wanted a tool that would immerse visitors in the lifestyle and connectivity Canalside Quarter offers, while staying accessible, entertaining, and true to their brand values.
The Solutions
We designed a bespoke experience centred around a real spin bike, connected to a digital system that let users choose and “ride” different Oxford routes. By synchronising real-world footage with the pedalling motion, we recreated the sensation of cycling through the city. To add a unique twist, Billy the Bear became the on-screen avatar, leading the ride with his signature charm. For the development itself, we collaborated with our partners at Greydot to produce a 3D-rendered aerial journey — allowing Billy to soar above the site and showcase Canalside Quarter from a breathtaking new perspective.
The RESULTs
The final installation delivered a truly immersive experience that captured the spirit of Canalside Quarter — healthy, connected, and full of life. It turned what could have been a simple information display into an interactive adventure, engaging visitors on both an emotional and sensory level. The Hill Group now has a showpiece experience that bridges storytelling, technology, and place — all in one unforgettable ride.
